Frequently asked questions

Can I chat directly on the website?+

Yes. Sign in, open Chat, and choose an available model. It uses your account balance without asking you to paste an API key. Conversations support streaming, Stop, and copy controls. Models that are not available cannot generate.

What is Lexelane?+

Lexelane is a text model API service for developers. One account, one USD balance, and familiar API formats let you work with multiple text models.

Can I start with a small amount?+

Yes. Top-ups start at $5. Choose a preset or enter a custom amount. Confirmed payments credit the principal amount to your USD balance. Payment methods are shown at checkout.

How are model requests billed?+

Requests are charged by the selected model’s input, output, and applicable cached-token rates. A budget is reserved before forwarding and settled using confirmed usage. Unused reservations are released. Rates are in USD per million tokens.

How should I compare prices?+

Compare input and output rates for the same model version using your own token mix. Caching, context length, service tiers, and quantization can affect comparability. Comparison pages label the date, conditions, and public market sources.

Can I use OpenAI SDKs, Codex, and Claude Code?+

The gateway provides native API interfaces. OpenAI SDKs commonly use Chat Completions, Codex needs Responses, and Claude Code needs Messages. Choose an available model with the required protocol; support for one interface does not establish compatibility with every client.

How are API keys protected?+

Full secrets are shown once at creation; the server stores hashes. Create separate keys per application, set budgets and expiry dates, and revoke access when needed. Keep keys in server environment variables.

Do you store my prompts?+

The usage database does not store prompts or generated text. It records request, token, and billing metadata. Content is processed by model service providers under their data policies. Review the privacy policy before submitting sensitive information.

What happens if a request fails or disconnects?+

An explicit rejection before generation releases the reservation. If final usage is unavailable after generation starts, a provisional conservative charge is recorded for review. Reconciliation refunds any difference through the ledger. The Usage page shows request IDs and outcomes.

How do I sign in and change my password?+

Use an email/password account provisioned by the operator, or Google when enabled. Public password signup is unavailable. Change your password in Account settings after verifying the current one; other browser sessions are signed out.
